'German Playwright'

Mother Night (DVD)

Mother Night (DVD)
Keith Gordon's darkly comic film version of Kurt Vonnegut Jr.'s highly original novel stars Nick Nolte as Howard J. Campbell Jr., an unusual antihero with a twisted story to tell. The tale begins in a Israeli prison cell, where Campbell is on trial for WWII war crimes. Campbell is given a typewriter 'german playwright' and enough paper to recount his bizarre memoir, which appears as a series of black-and-white 'german playwright' and color scenes that shift between 1940s Germany, 1950s New York, 'german playwright' and 1960s Israel. The American Campbell 'german playwright' and his parents relocate to Germany between the two world wars 'german playwright' and live a happy life. Campbell grows up to be a playwright 'german playwright' and marries a beautiful German actress, Helga Noth (Sheryl Lee). On a day like any other, Campbell's life takes a bizarre turn as he is offered a top-secret assignment by a U.S. government official (John Goodman in an unbilled role)--to pose as a Nazi sympathizer while relaying secret American code via the radio. Campbell successfully accomplishes his mission by starting an anti-American, anti-Semitic radio program that is revered in Nazi Germany 'german playwright' and deplored in America. In a strange twist of fate, the unknown American playwright becomes a well-known German celebrity. After the war, Campbell escapes Germany 'german playwright' and flees to New York, preferring to remain anonymous in the booming city. Years later, Campbell's life is turned upside down when he is recognized 'german playwright' and pursued by Holocaust survivors, eager white supremacists, neo-Nazis, 'german playwright' and U.S. law enforcers, leading to his incarceration in the Israeli prison where he awaits his fate. As Campbell, Nolte gives one of the finest performances of his career. A nightmarish maze of one man's misadventures, MOTHER NIGHT is an ironic 'german playwright' and deeply stylized tribute to the one-of-a-kind dark humor of Vonnegut's writing. Producers (FS/DVD)

Producers (FS/DVD)
This remake of Mel Brooks 1968 film features Nathan Lane 'german playwright' and Matthew Broderick in the roles that they originated in the smash Broadway adaptation of the original film. Broadway producer Max Bialystock (Lane) is famous for his spectacular opening night flops. Leopold Bloom (Broderick) is an uptight accountant who virtually discovers gold while reviewing Maxs books. When Leo realizes that you can actually make more money with a flop than with a hit, the two team up 'german playwright' and begin a search for both the worst script 'german playwright' and the worst director they can find to ensure failure. The script selection seems easy when the duo stumble upon SPRINGTIME FOR HITLER, an homage to the Fuhrer penned by Franz Liebkind (Will Ferrell), a German sympathetic to the Nazi cause. Convinced that the script will incite outrage, the duo needs a bad director to seal the deal. Campy director Roger DeBris (Gary Beach) 'german playwright' and his assistant (Roger Bart) fit the bill perfectly. But when their scheme fails, Max 'german playwright' and Leo find themselves with the worst possible outcome: a hit. To make matters worse, Franz is just a little peeved that Hitler was depicted disrespectfully--and he has a gun. Will Max 'german playwright' and Leo survive the playwrights wrath? Will they go to jail for cooking the books? And will Leo ever submit to the advances of sexy Swedish receptionist/actress Ulla (Uma Thurman)? Directed by stage director Susan Stroman, making her feature film directorial debut, this riotous romp features lots of laughs from the major players, as well as brief appearances by Jon Lovitz, Michael McKean, 'german playwright' and Richard Kind. Lane 'german playwright' and Broderick make it easy to understand why the show was an unprecedented hit on Broadway, 'german playwright' and Ferrell is a scene-stealer as Liebkind.
